Do I need a consumer unit upgrade to install an EV charger?
Not always. Many modern consumer units have the capacity to accommodate an additional circuit for an EV charger. We carry out a load assessment during our site visit to check your existing board's condition and capacity. If an upgrade is needed, we'll advise you clearly before any work starts.
Will my home's electricity supply handle an EV charger?
In most cases, yes. Standard UK domestic supplies (single-phase 100A) can comfortably support a 7kW home charger alongside normal household usage. We perform load calculations as part of the installation to confirm this.
How long does EV charger installation take?
A typical home EV charger installation takes between half a day and a full day, depending on the cable route, the location of the consumer unit, and whether any additional works are required.
Do you provide certification after installation?
Yes. All EV charger installations by ABK Electrical are fully tested and certificated. You'll receive an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) covering the new circuit, and the installation is NAPIT notified.
Can you install any brand of EV charger?
We can install most brands of tethered or untethered home chargers. If you've already purchased a charger unit, we're happy to install it. If you haven't yet chosen a charger, we can advise on suitable options based on your car and home setup.
